About Office of Environment and Heritage NSW (OEH)
The New South Wales Office of Environment and Heritage was an agency of the Government of New South Wales, which is now integrated in the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) and has the remit of looking the state’s environment and heritage, which includes the natural environment, national parks, built environment (with attention to government operations) Aboriginal country, culture and heritage, and built heritage in New South Wales, Australia.
The Challenge
OEH reached out to us for assisting with critical data analysis and asserting best practise solutions. They needed reports that would be easily updated, understandable and easy to navigate. They required more functionality, dynamic data and real time reporting.
One of the main challenges they faced was the quality and complexity of data, it was patchy and could have potentially led to false conclusions and misinterpretation.
Therefore, they needed multi-angle dashboards for presenting all data in different ways to meet the requirements of two different government structures. It was important to futureproof for the new policy which had different requirements to the old one.
The main objectives of this project were data accessibility to the public and implementation of a progression metric that is aligned to net zero – in a gamified/leaderboard way.
The Solution
We have designed and built very professional and elegant looking dashboards in Power BI where data is updated on regular basis. We built the Progression dashboard which is functional and liked by the organization. Now two different government structures are running on them simultaneously and smoothly.
The Outcome
A set of Power BI dashboards were designed and implemented with the functionality to switch between old and new government structures, and real time monitoring to track the progress of each organisation across the cluster and other areas.
