Data industry icon Matt Allington to spearhead corporate data capabilities in a strategic acquisition led by Agile Analytics

High-profile Australian data analytics maverick, Matt Allington, will join data management firm Agile Analytics (Agile) in a strategic company acquisition aimed at targeting front-end corporate capabilities and executive training.

Mr Allington is a best-selling author of definitive books on Power BI, DAX and Data Modelling. He is one of just a handful of global professionals esteemed with a coveted Microsoft MVP and will bring over 30 years of experience to the company. Matt established Excelerator BI in 2014 and grew the business with corporate capabilities training in Power BI; a Microsoft data software product.

Agile Analytics CEO, Mr Matthew Salmanzadeh, said the acquisition and amalgamation of Excelerator BI services is a strategic response to market demand and will fill an increasing gap in internal capabilities for many of the company’s clients.

“Data analytics is a recognised stable for most businesses, yet any data initiative and the value of the intelligence are very much determined by the initial scope, design and architecture. In other words, the quality of the output is reliant on the parameters of the input,” he said.

“Regardless of how sophisticated a business is, it is difficult for internal teams and executives to keep up with changing technologies and, more importantly, what it can mean to an organisation.
“The acquisition of Excelerator BI will enable Agile Analytics to work with its clients in not just a technical and strategic capacity, but also in helping them to build internal capabilities that will shape their own data analytics future.”
The acquisition will effectively combine the business’ skillsets to create Australia’s first true end-to-end service model for data and analytics. Agile plans to initially offer the service to its existing portfolio of high-profile clientele before launching the program more broadly.
Agile Analytics is a privately owned premier data analytics and automation consultancy with blue-chip clients including Westpac, Dulux, Tourism Australia, NSW Government, John Holland, Cuscal, Super Retail Group, Sydney and Queensland Airport and Humm Group, and in sectors that span across State and Federal Government, financial services, travel and tourism, retail and construction.

The company is a three-time consecutive recipient of the CRN Fast50 award for being in the top 50 fastest-growing tech companies in Australia, holds its ISO27001 certification and is an authorised specialist in Microsoft Azure Analytics.

Mr Allington believes Agile’s progressive approach to current market shifts and its agility to address resource gaps internally will position the company in good stead amidst the uncertainty created by economic headwinds.

“Maximising company data has never been a ‘plug in and play’ situation and will always require a certain level of technical literacy. The increasing dependence on SaaS and PaaS-based Analytics solutions does not currently adequately cater for the complexity of the data, analytics and AI landscape,” he continued.

“When executives and internal teams lose their grip on technology, they ultimately limit their capabilities.

“This internal resource gap will only intensify with the emergence of AI and ML, and organisations will eventually be steered towards finding efficient solutions and partnerships.”

The acquisition of Excelerator BI will see Allington assume a senior leadership role within the new Agile structure and transition his senior consultant and Microsoft Certified Power BI Trainer, Jason Cockington, to help lead a new training practice within the broader Agile business.

“The corporate shift away from the big four consulting firms presents an enormous opportunity for mid-tier companies like Agile that not only have comparable credentials but also the agility to turn the consulting model inwards and work on building our clients’ internal capabilities,” Mr Salmanzadeh adds.

“It’s an extremely exciting time for the business.”

The acquisition is anticipated to bolster the company’s existing training business by an ambitious 400% and help the business achieve a forecast turnover of circ. $20m pa in the next two years.
